Sewing success!

What are blogs for if not to brag a little (or a lot, depending on the blog) about your family. Well this time I am bragging about myself! That's right, me.


I made this skirt following a tutorial from Kuky Ideas.


For the first time in my life I started and completed a sewing project entirely on my own. With the exception of the many phone calls to my mom and my sister to understand the directions and Jim's help to assemble the pieces. I cut it all out and I sewed it all by myself! Why is this such a big deal? Well you would know if you could see all the failed and unfinished sewing projects I have started since I got my machine back in November.


Now that I have had some success, I am totally motivated to try lots of new projects!

(Oh and yes, the skirt has been on display on my ironing board in my living room for 3 days.)

Getting ready to move

Moving is so exhausting.

We are currently recovering from a whirl wind two week extravaganza. We traveled to the DC area to spend time with my family since Jessamyn and Johnny were out for an east coast tour.

Isn't it amazing how much you can love your nieces and nephews? We adore our baby Johnny, he gives the best hugs. Jessamyn took most of the pictures and then turned them into little works of art and sent them to me.

After our family reunion Jim and I spent the weekend in NY. We stayed on Long Island and visited the Hamptons. I had no idea how beautiful and how very long the island actually is. We spent a day in NYC and got to see Blithe Spirit with Angela Lansbury and Rupert Everett. It was a wonderful day.
Now we're back home, packing and trying to get back on a schedule.

Two Conversations with Lilly

Me: Lilly I want to talk to you

Lilly: Ok

Me: In the fall you're going to have a new brother or a sister

L: I already have a brother and a sister.

Me: Oh. Well guess what? Mommy has a baby in her tummy.

L: I have two babies in my tummy, and two puppies.

Me: Oh. Well tomorrow we're going to the doctor to hear the heart beat of the baby in my tummy, do you want to come with us and hear the heart beat?

L: The baby in my tummy makes hearts.....and pizzas.

Me: Your baby wins.

Later in the week.....

Lilly: Mom, I really want to eat cereal.
Me: Ok, which cereal?
Lilly: The one on top of the fridge and the ice computer.
Me: The what?
Lilly: The ice computer, you know where we keep all the cereal.

She is too funny.

Last Sunday Jim took me to a Mom-ument that stands in a small town in PA. He took us there so he could get pictures for mother's day.

Composting - grosser than I thought.

About a month ago I got a small tomato plant from a gardening expo I went to. I decided to take care of it, but in my heart I knew it would only die. That's they way most green things go in my life.

I placed my little plant on the window sill in our living room. My little photog Lilly wanted to take some pictures of her baby dolls and inadvertently got my baby tomato plant and her baby sunflower in the picture. Because of her I now have a before and after!

They got so big I had to transfer containers. They're pretty much ready to go into the ground now. I am so excited that something I tended to didn't die. So of course I signed up for a composting seminar at the rec center since I am a gardener now. Along with the free seminar I got a free composting bin. One of those huge black bins, that according to my friend, looks like Darth Vader.

I went to the seminar and learned all about composting. It is really gross and rather filthy. I'm not going to do it. Although now I have this huge Darth Vader composting bin in my garage. Maybe Jim will do it. I am not going to save my egg shells and stir it in with dead leaves, manure, and grass. Just not going to happen. The lady told me one way to test if your compost is ready is if to put in a ziploc for three days. Then open it and it doesn't smell then it's ready. I'm not willing to do that kind of test.

I think I'm more of a window sill gardener. Today I saw a filthy centipede crawling near my tomato plant. That makes me want to get rid of the tomato plant all together.

I guess there is a learning curve with gardening and filthy composting.
